How to apply makeup properly in summer, when temperatures rise?

When it’s hot, we often worry that our makeup won’t last and that our complexion will lose its freshness throughout the day. However, it’s also the time of year when we want to look radiant. Here are some tips from a professional makeup artist to learn how to apply makeup well in summer and achieve a fresh and radiant complexion!

Cuando hace calor, a menudo nos preocupa que nuestro maquillaje no dure. ¿Cómo podemos maquillarnos correctamente en verano ?

1. Applying makeup well in summer means moisturizing and protecting your skin.

Generally, in summer we prefer light textures, such as BB creams or soft liquid foundations. But above all, it’s important to take good care of your skin according to its needs. Just because your skin is oily doesn’t mean it doesn’t need hydration.
For skin prone to dryness, the Byoma Hydrating Serum and Embryolisse Concentrated Milk will work wonders.
For oily skin, I really like Sephora’s Clarifying Serum routine and its mattifying moisturizer.
For combination skin, you should adapt your routine according to your skin’s evolution and characteristics; consult an expert if needed.
Next, you should protect your skin from the sun, even if you wear makeup. Supergoop Matte Screen SPF 30 is a great primer, for example. Remember to check the composition of your sunscreen (if your foundation is water-based, you should opt for a water-based skincare routine, including SPF. If your foundation is silicone-based, you should opt for a silicone-based skincare routine). Finally, before applying foundation, let your skin absorb the products and remove any excess with a tissue. This excess can cause your foundation to run.

2. Favor mattifying primers

To ensure your foundation stays put, I recommend using a mattifying primer before applying it. If you’re prone to shine, you can apply a setting spray before applying foundation.
Obviously, after applying any creamy texture (foundation, concealer, cream blush), you’ll need to apply powder, even a thin layer, to help it stay in place.
During the summer months, to create a more natural finish, you can apply more shimmery products once the primer is on (for example, apply Rare Beauty Liquid Highlighter to your cheekbones and the tip of your nose).

3. Have a small “emergency makeup” kit

Whether you’re on vacation or at an event, your makeup will undoubtedly be put to the test (by the sea or pool, under the scorching sun on a terrace, sweating after dancing at a wedding, etc.). Ideally, you’ll have an emergency makeup bag with: a powder puff or brush, something to touch up your lips, and a tissue to gently pat your face dry in case of sweat or moisture.
