Loose Powders: 4 Products We Don’t Talk About Enough
Between those that have a cakey finish and those that don’t set the complexion well, it’s not easy to choose the right loose powder. Here are my current favorites: there’s one for everyone: dry, normal and oily skin!
The ideal loose powder for setting concealer!
I chose Anastasia Beverly Hills Loose Setting Powder. One of my current favorites, this loose powder is fine and mattifying. It will set concealer and leave a luminous effect around the eye. Applied with a powder puff or brush, it won’t leave an overly powdery or yellowish finish around the eye area, unlike many powders. I prefer this to Laura Mercier’s version (Secret Brightening Under Eyes), which has a too white finish for my liking. If you have normal to dry skin, Anastasia Beverly Hills’s powder is sufficient for the entire complexion. If you have oily areas, you’ll need to mix it with other powders.
Loose powder for a super-luminous complexion #GlassSkin
If you love radiant, glowing faces, get Laura Mercier’s Light Catcher translucent loose setting powder! But beware: it’s billed as a mattifying powder… I don’t recommend using it to set your entire face (unless you want your entire face to glow). It captures so much light that it feels like a highlighter. Its advantage lies in its delicacy and lightness: it adds shine without emphasizing imperfections.
For a porcelain doll complexion
If you have normal to dry skin, you’ll love Caron’s translucent loose setting powder. It doesn’t usually get a lot of attention on social media, but it sets makeup beautifully without the need to overapply it. Enriched with mica microparticles, it leaves skin soft and gives it a porcelain doll look. Its Bulgarian rose scent deserves a special mention.
The one that gives an all-day filter effect.
I usually use it on normal, combination, or oily skin: it’s Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r loose powder. With this loose powder, your makeup stays put all day, even if you sweat a lot. It perfectly conceals wrinkles, fine lines, imperfections, pores… You’ll say it’s like many others! Yes, but this one has the advantage of being ultra-fine. My advice: for the most natural look possible, apply it with a powder puff on oily areas and with a large fluffy brush on the rest. The powder puff sets even better, but it usually leaves a “set” effect. It’s better to combine both techniques if you’re looking for a natural effect.
