Laura Atlani – makeup artist in Seville
When should you have your wedding makeup trial? This question often arises among brides-to-be.
As a preamble, let’s remember that it’s essential to do at least one makeup trial, or even several. They always say that makeup completes the look, and this is even more true for the big day. The makeup trial will allow you to confirm your wishes and needs. Being accompanied by a professional makeup artist during this step will allow you to receive guidance on what will best enhance your look, respecting your facial features, complexion, and skin type. In short, this step should be anticipated…
The Pre-Conversation
Before scheduling your wedding makeup trial, it’s important to have a conversation with the makeup artist who will be accompanying you.
This discussion will allow you to define your expectations for the trial, as well as receive all the necessary advices for preparing: How should you prepare your skin? Do you have any allergies? What are your makeup habits? These are all points to cover to ensure the day of the trial is as optimal and enjoyable as possible.
The Date of the Trial
The wedding makeup trial is ideally done 1 or 2 months before the wedding, and no more than 3 months before.
The Season
Your skin can react differently depending on the time of year. In winter, for example, your skin may be especially dry. In summer, you may have tanned more. Having a trial date similar to the big day allows the makeup artist to create the right look and choose the most suitable products.
The Routine
One or two months before the wedding, the makeup artist can give you tips on how to implement your pre-wedding skincare routine so you have beautiful skin on the big day. A too short time between the trial and the big day wouldn’t allow for this preparation.
Techniques and Products
As a makeup artist, I can assure you that in our profession, we are constantly learning. Our techniques, as our products, evolve based on new products and market availability. I like to be able to offer you the most accurate preview possible of the final result, using the products I will use on the big day.
The Theme
You should give yourself time to finalize all the details of your event before the trial. This will allow the makeup artist to consider your wedding’s overall theme when creating your look.
Note: At weddings, makeup artists’ schedules fill up quickly, especially during the summer months. I recommend booking your trial (or trials) well in advance.
The day of the trial
Final tips before trying on wedding makeup:
- Come without makeup, and if you’re applying any cream or moisturizer, let your makeup artist know. Some creams and primers don’t work with certain foundations.
- Prepare makeup looks that inspire you, ideally worn by women who look like you (Pinterest, Instagram, magazines, etc.). It’s best to choose photos with minimal retouching.
- If you’re wearing accessories for the big day, bring them (hair accessories, jewelry, etc.).
